Olympics 2024

The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris are set to take place from July 24 to August 11, 2024. The Games will be unique in many ways, including an unprecedented Opening Ceremony along the Seine River instead of inside a stadium, featuring 160 boats carrying athletes past iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower.

Paris 2024 will host events across various historic and picturesque venues. For example, the Palace of Versailles will host equestrian events, Roland Garros will feature tennis and boxing, and beach volleyball will take place near the Eiffel Tower. Surfing events are planned to be held on the remote island of Tahiti, nearly 10,000 miles from Paris.

The Paris Olympics will be the most gender-balanced in history, with equal opportunities for men's and women's competitions. The schedule includes 329 events across 32 sports, with the first medals likely to be awarded on July 27 and the last on August 11.

The Games will conclude with women's events in sports like wrestling, weightlifting, and track cycling, emphasizing the spotlight on female athletes, including the women’s marathon as a highlight before the Closing Ceremony.
India is set to have a strong presence at the 2024 Paris Olympics, with numerous athletes having already secured their spots across various sports.

So far, India has qualified in several sports, including athletics, shooting, wrestling, boxing, hockey, and more. In athletics, star athletes like Neeraj Chopra (men's javelin throw), Avinash Sable (men's 3000m steeplechase), and Parul Chaudhary (women's 3000m steeplechase and 5000m) are among those who have directly qualified. Additionally, India's shooting contingent is robust, with athletes like Rudrankksh Patil (men's 10m air rifle) and Mehuli Ghosh (women's 10m air rifle) having secured quotas.

In boxing, India will be represented by notable names like Nikhat Zareen (women's 50kg) and Lovlina Borgohain (women's 75kg). The Indian men's and women's hockey teams have also qualified directly.

Overall, India is aiming to surpass its performance from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where it achieved its highest-ever medal tally. The country hopes to build on this momentum and bring home more medals in Paris 2024.
